Smoking Does Not Relieve Stress

September 6th, 2010 by Rudy Santiago

Smokers have been made to believe that nicotine, a highly addictive and dangerous drug, helps them to cope up with stress in their day to day lives. They believe that by getting their dose of nicotine by lighting up a cigarette, it will make them more focused, relaxed and peaceful. It will throw away all negative feelings brought by stress in life and this belief is one good reason they say why they find it difficult to quit smoking for good.

If smoking or nicotine really helps people to relieve stress, why do non-smokers go on with their lives peacefully without craving for a cigarette? Stress is part of any man’s life whether he is smoking or not. Our mind was built to cope up with the anxieties given by life without the help of any addictive substance like nicotine. No one was born a smoker and before a smoker started lighting those cigarettes, he was able to cope up with stress in life without smoking.

There are many factors that make life interesting and challenging and stress is one of them. How we deal with it will determine on who we really are. Are we really that weak or are we that strong enough to outlast such events presented that will make us a better person. Stress is all around us and we don’t need nicotine or cigarette for that matter to relieve us from it.

Actually, it is not stress that smoking relieves, guess what, it’s the nicotine withdrawal symptoms that’s being relieved not solely stress itself. Whenever the nicotine levels inside the body of the smoker goes down, his body undergoes a state where negative emotions will be felt if nicotine is not replaced soon enough. But this malady is only temporary and once the body recuperates from nicotine dependency, everything will go back to normal.

Sooner or later, the smoker will decide to quit smoking for good. Be it because of health or financial reasons, there will come a time when he will decide to quit (well I guess not all of them). The smoker has to admit the truth that smoking is not really helping him to cope up with stress. Rather nicotine is making his life more prone to stress because of withdrawal symptoms. The sooner the smoker accepts this truth the easier he will be able to quit smoking successfully.

Commitment to quit is one of the key main ingredients that is needed in order to quit smoking for good. When you are deeply committed, you will do everything under your control to stop smoking. Accepting the truth is one of them; smoking never has helped you in relieving stress. Actually it made your situation worse by helping you become addict and dependent to one of the most addictive drug known in this planet. So make the commitment quit smoking today!

Heroin Addiction Treatment – Being Cruel To Be Kind

September 5th, 2010 by Stephen Whitworth

The known symptoms of heroin addiction should be enough to scare off any potential user. Not only are such physical symptoms as vomiting and cramping commonplace with heroin addicts but further symptoms such as insomnia and depression. Due to the high level of addiction associated with heroin abuse, it is often the hardest kind of addiction to beat. Not only are those symptoms above present but there are also indirect risks, often found through the sharing of a needle. Such risks are disease related i.e. HIV and hepatitis.

As much as the symptoms related to heroin addiction can cause much uncomfort, the treatment programmes are no walk in the park either. But the fact that it can sometimes take undergoing a variety of these programmes for the addict to make a full recovery is a testimony to how much a lesser of the two evils addiction treatment is as opposed to just plain old addiction.

The ideal programmes will be tailor-made to suit the needs of the individual as some require more personal support, for example, than others. This kind of programme offers the patient a more favourable opportunity of achieving a full recovery.

The first step in rehab as it is with most addiction programmes is detoxification. It can take weeks or event months dependent upon the severity of the addiction. This can be a hellish time for the patient and usually requires close monitoring.

Whilst detox provides the body with some much needed benefits, there is another side to many treatment programmes. There are counselling sessions both one on one and in group where the patient can talk about what he is going through and anything else which he feels that he needs to such as what drove him to addiction in the first place. This also lets him know that he is not alone and this, especially if he has support from family and friends, will give him strength to face up to his demons.

Exercise To Treat Anxiety

September 5th, 2010 by Harry Constantine

Exercise is among the easiest ways that you can aid the anxiety naturally, without pills and other medications. Exercise is the “cure all” for almost everything. The reason why exercise works so effectively is because it releases endorphins to the brain and provides your mind a increase of serotonin. Not just that, yet doing exercises places you in charge of your body and is a proactive way in treating your health.

Most anxiety patients have one component in common – control. People who are worried about losing control in many cases are those who are the most anxious ones.

While we can’t control everything that takes place in our life, we do have control when it arrives to the body. And we could do exercises. Exercise is really the miracle cure. It helps ease anxiety by working out the stress you are feeling as well as increasing endorphins that send messages to the brain. What can be better than that?

Before going to sleep, you could incorporate a few Pilates work outs or even some Yoga. They’re extending exercises which will relax you and also make you stay in very good condition. You can be relaxed and become prepared for a good night’s rest when you are training these kinds of workouts at night. You do not have to enroll in Yoga courses to learn the moves and also you don’t have to contort the body in to a variety of impossible shapes. It is important that you learn to extend and relax.

By exercises to remedy anxiety and sadness, you don’t only increase your mood and rest your body, you give yourself something to give full attention to, rather than concentrating on yourself. An work outs routine will take away the issues you have mentally and allow you something more important on which to concentrate. It genuinely is the solution for all anxiety and depression.
